My Thoughts about Maya Angelou “Still I Rise”

The theme of this poem is freedom. (IC) The theme is freedom because the poem shows her freedom of speech and easy release of thought. (CX) Although, she is uncertain in the beginning, she still is very bold and shows confidence. (CX) She is very aware of her own inner and outer beauty. (IC) This theme applies to humans because it gives you that boldness and confidence. (CX)

The author shows the speakers change because, as I stated before, there was a little uncertainty in the beginning. (CX) She was very aware of her own beauty, but she still asks a lot of questions as if she needs certainty. (CD-CX) Towards the end of the poem, she is very courageous and she confirms that she is rising. (IC)

I think tragedy does have a huge impact on a meaningful poem like, “Still I Rise”. (IC) It makes a difference when the words come from the heart, pain and/or achievement and overcoming obstacles. (CX)
