The theme of this poem was to explain how the author, William Ernest Henley went through life and death situations. William had tuberculosis of the bone. William also had doubts about himself living through the surgery. He didn’t care if he died or not. So, if this were a movie it wouldn’t actually apply to William only. It’ll also apply to everyone. This would be an encouraging movie. William was courageous and brave, he didn’t let anything stop him or bring him down.

This poem actually does have real-world application. This poem can apply to a lot of different situations. For example, a child is suffering from cancer. If they keep the poem in mind it will help them to be brave, courageous, and powerful. This poem can be encouraging while this child is going through this pain and heartache. This poem is even influential to me. This poem encourages me to work harder and harder everyday without anyone stopping me.

This poem can apply to my life because it helps me through anything I go through in life. I can look back on this poem to give me more confidence. Sometimes I have felt like the reader. I sometimes doubt myself ,but I gain my confidence back. I will most definitely use this poem in my future. This is a great poem to look back on or to even keep in mind.
