My Thoughts about William Ernest Henley’s Poem, “Invictus”

Theme is the overall message, feeling, or emotion of a story, poem, or any other form of writing. The theme of the poem “Invictus” is to take responsibility for your destiny. In the last two lines of the poem, the author says “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul” meaning you are the master and captain of your destiny, and you have to take full responsibility for it.

Many of people can benefit from reading this poem, especially leaders and rulers in the world. This poem is telling how a person could be the master of their fate and the captain of their souls, and that could be really motivating and beneficial to some people.

Yes I can relate to this poem. This poem tells me that I am the master of my fate and I am the captain of my soul. That really teaches me that I am the one responsible for my destiny and I should never let anyone take that away from me.  I can also relate to this poem when I am feeling discouraged or intimated.
