My Procedure: The process of making chitterlings

Most people think chitterlings are disgusting and taste horrible. Although they smell might be nasty there actually tasty. Chitlins are a type of food made from pig intestines. This is usually a soul food dish. Sometimes there called chitterlings in other homes. Chitterlings have lots of bacteria so it imparity that you wash them several times. The best way to find a location that sells them is through an Internet search or word of mouth; make sure you don’t get tricked though. Chitterling is a dish that my family usually cooks around the holidays.


1 red pepper, cut up

1 clove garlic, minced

1 med. onion, cut up

1/2 lg. green pepper, cut up

2 stalks celery, cut up

10 lbs. chitterlings

1 tbsp. salt

1 tbsp. white pepper



Take chitterlings out the bag and put into sink ( these were already cooked )chit

Soak all chitterlings in warm water 30 minutes.

Cut each into 12-inch pieces. Slit open. Remove all fat particles and debris.

Wash in warm to hot water 3-5 times. chit2

Place in large pot

Add onions, celery, peppers, garlic, salt and pepper. chit4

Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cook on medium-low heat 4 hours. chit3

and then your finished….
